Bandana to Rockabilly Hair Wrap Sewing Tutorial

So, I have a trunk full of bandanas, and I wear them every freakin' day. I usually fold them in a certain way to create the "rockabilly hair wrap". But, for a easier way of wearing them, I decided to transform my bandanas in a way that there is no need to fold them. Also, this transformation takes away some of the bulk of the bandana, making them more secure when worn. Therefore, here is a tutorial on how to make this convenient alteration! Enjoy!

Here's What You'll Need:
  • Bandana
  • Sewing Machine
  • Thread
  • Ruler
  • Pen or Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Iron
  • Ironing Board

Step 1: Have the bandana completely pressed and lie it flat. Next, bring one corner of the bandana towards the other corner opposite to it, creating a slight triangle (wrong sides together). While doing this, make sure that the two points on the bottom are even. If your bandana is a not a square, but instead is a rectangle, this might make a slight L shape on the top.

Step 2: Take your ruler and measure 5 1/2" from the bottom and make a line with your pen or pencil all the way across. This will make a wrap that is 2 1/4" wide. If you would like it wider or less wide, just add or subtract accordingly. Then, cut across the line you drew.

Step 3: Bring the bandana to the ironing board and from the cut edge, press down 1/2" towards the bottom.

Step 4: Next, fold in half across the width, bringing the pressed edge to the bottom. Press again.

Step 5: Lastly, topstitch the the two ends together.

And Your Finished!

Now you can buy a bunch of bandanas and make simple rockabilly hair wraps!.....
Or use the first one as a pattern, add seam allowance,  and just
  1. Cut 2 from fabric
  2. Sew right sides together, leaving a turning hole
  3. Turn right side out
  4. Topstitch around the edges

    1. You could use it for another project, like making a hair bow clip :)
